Hi all:
Just a friendly reminder that the Bee Informed Survey is now open (it closes on April 30). If you have had bee losses, this is another chance to tell the national researchers: https://26.selectsurvey.net/beeinformed/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=LMS2019#. If 300 Kentucky beekeepers respond, our state will receive a report specific to our beekeepers.
Seems like we have actually had a spring instead of skipping straight to summer. You should consider putting small hive beetle traps in now, as well as doing a sample to check on the varroa mite load. Swarm season is in full swing, so remember to be careful when trying to catch a swarm. If you get a call, you may want to ask how long the swarm has been there before making a trek.
The Heartland Apiculture Society is having its Summer meeting at WKU in Bowling Green, July 8-10. The online registration is now open: http://www.heartlandbees.org/register-today/
